Privacy Policy
How Connect Georgetown collects, uses, shares and protects information in connection with this website and directory. Prefer the short version? Read privacy at a glance.
On this page
1. Who we are
Connect Georgetown (“Connect Georgetown,” “we,” “us”) operates connectgeorgetown.org, a free directory of nonprofit and community services for Georgetown County, South Carolina. This policy applies to that website and to the forms and organization accounts it hosts. It does not apply to the separate websites, offices or programs of the organizations listed in the directory, each of which sets its own privacy practices.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Form submissions. When you contact us, leave feedback, suggest an organization or apply to join the directory, we collect what you enter — typically name, email, phone, organization and your message.
- Organization profile content. Information submitted for a listing, including services, service area, hours, eligibility, addresses, contacts, logo and social links. This content is intended to be public.
- Account credentials. For organization and staff accounts: email address, hashed password and role.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data. Pages and profiles viewed, search terms, filters applied, links clicked, and the general referrer, aggregated for reporting.
- Technical data. Browser type, device type, operating system, approximate region derived from IP address, and timestamps, used for security and performance.
- Location you provide. A city, state or ZIP code you type into a search field is used to calculate distance during that session.
We do not ask for and do not want Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, medical records, immigration documents or other sensitive personal information. Please do not submit them through this site.
3. How we use information
- To operate the directory and return relevant search results, including distance-based results.
- To answer your messages, corrections and accessibility reports.
- To review, publish and maintain organization listings, including verifying submissions with the organization.
- To produce aggregate reports on usage — most visited organizations, most searched services and categories, common keywords and unique visitor counts — used to fill service gaps and report to funders.
- To protect the site against spam, abuse and security threats, and to monitor uptime.
- To comply with law.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent personal information.
4. Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies: strictly necessary cookies that keep sessions, form state and language preference working, and analytics cookies that count visits and searches in aggregate. Analytics is configured to limit identifiers, and we do not combine analytics data with form submissions to build profiles of individuals.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent language selection and forms from working correctly. We honor Global Privacy Control signals where your browser sends them.
5. Third-party services
We rely on a limited set of vendors that process data on our behalf under contract:
- Website hosting and security — serving pages, backups, firewall and uptime monitoring.
- Google Maps and Places — map display, geocoding of addresses and location autocomplete. When a map loads, your browser contacts Google directly and Google’s own privacy policy applies to that request.
- Email delivery — sending form notifications, approval emails and reports to staff and listed organizations.
- Analytics — aggregate usage measurement.
- Spam protection — automated screening of form submissions.
6. How we share information
We share information only as follows:
- Publicly, by design. Approved organization profile content is published on this site and may appear in search engines.
- With an organization, when you ask us to. If your message concerns a specific listing, we may share the relevant details with that organization to resolve it — and we will tell you when we do.
- With vendors listed in section 5, limited to what they need to perform their service.
- In aggregate with funders and community partners — counts and trends only, never individual records.
- When required by law or to protect the rights, safety or property of Connect Georgetown, our users or the public.
Browsing a listing never notifies the organization that you viewed it.
7. Organization accounts and submissions
Organizations that join the directory are responsible for the accuracy of what they submit and for keeping their credentials secure. Submissions enter a review queue and are not published automatically. We may edit submitted content for clarity, length, plain language and consistency with our taxonomy. We log profile changes with a timestamp and the account that made them so we can resolve disputes about a listing.
An organization may request that its listing be paused or removed at any time by writing from an address at its own domain. Removal takes effect within five business days; cached copies held by search engines may persist longer.
8. Data retention
- Contact and feedback submissions: 24 months, then deleted.
- Aggregate usage and search reporting: up to 26 months.
- Organization profile content and revision history: while the listing is active, and for 12 months after removal for restoration purposes.
- Account records: while the account is active, plus 12 months.
- Security and server logs: 90 days.
9. Security
The site is served over HTTPS. We use role-based access controls that separate public use from internal management, require strong passwords for staff and organization accounts, rate-limit login attempts, screen form submissions for spam, maintain a firewall and uptime monitoring, and keep regular encrypted backups. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects personal information we will notify affected people and any required authorities without undue delay.
10. Your choices and rights
You may ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it for a particular purpose. Email info@ConnectGeorgetown.org with your request. We respond within 30 days and will not treat you differently for making a request. Because we do not require accounts to search, we may be unable to connect anonymous usage data to you — and in that case we will say so plainly.
Where you have given consent, you may withdraw it at any time. Organizations may opt out of listing at any time as described in section 7.
11. Children’s privacy
This site is intended for adults seeking services for themselves, their families or their clients. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information through this site, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our practices change. The revision date appears at the top of this page. Material changes will be announced on the homepage for at least 30 days. Continued use of the site after a change takes effect means you accept the revised policy.
