About this organization
Lions Vision Services (LVS) was founded in 1969 by the Lions Clubs of South Carolina in response to the growing need for services for blind and visually impaired individuals in underserved communities.
Today, LVS exists to empower under-served blind and visually impaired residents across South Carolina to live safe, meaningful, and fulfilling lives. Its vision is of a vibrant community in which preventable blindness is eliminated, individuals have the resources they need to thrive, and public perception fully recognizes the dignity and potential of every blind and visually impaired person.
LVS offers an array of need-based services to low-income South Carolinians, including assistance with eye exams, eyewear, and coverage for critical eye surgeries. Free vision screenings are provided in partnership with local Lions Clubs and healthcare providers to support early detection and correction. Each spring, LVS hosts the Blind Fishing event and convenes quarterly meetings of the Palmetto Vision Alliance to promote collaboration and shared learning across the state. With more than 50 years of experience, LVS relies on strong partnerships, medical networks, peer organizations, and a dedicated community of donors to create sustainable, locally driven solutions for sight.
Mission: Lions Vision Services empowers the under-served blind and visually-impaired in South Carolina to live safe, meaningful, and fulfilling lives.
